Chiang Mai Expedition
Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi
October 22 – 28, 2012
DAY 1 - October 22
After arriving in Chiang Mai, participants will be picked up from the airport and taken to the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Devi hotel. That evening will be a welcome dinner and introductory talk by Steve, and participants will receive information about Chiang Mai, including a map, dos and don’ts, and things to do around the city.
DAY 2 - October 23
Before breakfast, the participants will go into town to see the monks walking and receiving alms. In the afternoon everyone will visit a Thai Boxing gym to watch boxers train and spar with their Thai instructors. Participants will be able to explore the training camp, and dinner will follow.
DAY 3 - October 24
The group will travel early to the Pattara Elephant camp, taking a packed breakfast with them. Participants will be able to shoot elephants in a natural preserve setting, seeing things such as elephants bathing and taking care of their calves. Return to the hotel for lunch and back out into Chiang Mai for more photography. A portfolio review will follow dinner.

DAY 4 - October 25
Today the group will visit the Longneck tribe village, where participants will be able to photograph the tribe members cleaning their neck rings, weaving scarves, and other day to day activities. Following lunch at the hotel participants will be able to decide as a group where they would like to spend the afternoon. A photo critique and slideshow by Steve will accompany dinner.
DAY 5 - October 26
The morning will be spent shooting at the Dhara Devi hotel, which provides gorgeous and interesting options for photographers. A trip to a tattoo studio after lunch will lend some interesting subject matter for participants to photograph. In the evening will be a Photoshop workshop, and discussion on how to improve your images.
DAY 6 - Oct 27
In the early morning participants will visit the Buffalo market, where water buffalo and other livestock are sold to haggling customers. There is also a wide variety of other goods to be found, and there should be no shortage of amazing subject matter. This will be followed by a portrait session at the Thai Temple School, where students ranging from Kindergarten to junior school wear traditional Northern Thailand fabrics. After lunch will be another portrait workshop, with traditional Thai dancers will be doing their hair and makeup in preparation for that evening’s performance. Participants will then have a farewell dinner at the restaurant and watch the dancers perform. Following dinner will be a trip to the night market, a must-see for anyone visiting Chiang Mai.
DAY 7 - Oct 28
After breakfast, transfer to the Airport for your onward flights.
